Angaza Young Mums

Angaza Young Mums was born to support young mothers facing stigma, neglect, and shame. Grace, a survivor of early motherhood herself, turned her pain into purpose, creating a Christian-based haven under the church. We embrace, empower, and uplift young mothers, reminding them that their story begins with courage and hope.

What
We Do

In March 2020, when the world was brought to a standstill by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kilifi County faced an even greater crisis—a heartbreaking rise in early pregnancies among young girls. In the midst of this storm, Angaza Young Mums was born, founded by Grace Nasumba Mramba. For Grace, this was not just another initiative; it was a deeply personal mission. She, too, had once walked this difficult path.

While in college, Grace found herself facing the painful reality of becoming a mother before she was ready. The whispers, the judgment, the shame—she lived it all. She knows what it feels like to carry the weight of a life-changing circumstance at such a tender age. But more importantly, she knows the strength it takes to rise above it. Fueled by her own experience and unwavering faith, Grace turned her pain into purpose, rallying support from her family, friends, and the church to create a safe haven for girls who are too often forgotten. Angaza Young Mums is a Christian-based community organization working under the church, committed to shining a light of hope on young mothers. In a society where girls facing early motherhood are met with stigma, abuse, and neglect, we choose to embrace, empower, and uplift them. Here, every young mother is seen not as a sinner, but as a survivor—a brave soul who deserves love, compassion, and a second chance. We stand by these young mothers, reminding them that their story does not end with struggle; it begins with courage. Through spiritual guidance, emotional support, and practical empowerment, Angaza Young Mums is restoring dignity and rewriting futures. Together, we believe that no girl should face this journey alone. We are here to listen, to guide, and to inspire. Because when you give a young mother hope, you empower her to change not only her life but the lives of those around her. At Angaza Young Mums, we turn tears into strength, shame into resilience, and judgment into love.

Challenges

  • Stigma and cultural barriers make it difficult to build trust and acceptance in the community.
  • Limited funding hinders programs, outreach, and operational costs.
  • Resource constraints affect access to counseling, healthcare partnerships, and vocational tools.
  • Capacity challenges arise due to reliance on volunteers and limited professional staff.
  • Addressing emotional and psychological needs requires trained professionals, which can be costly.
  • Sustaining programs long-term without consistent donor support remains a challenge.
  • Awareness and outreach to rural areas face logistical and cultural barriers.
  • Collaboration with government agencies and NGOs is slowed by bureaucratic processes.
  • Ensuring inclusivity for all, given the Christian-based nature, poses challenges in diverse communities.
