About the initiative
The “sauti zetu” initiative is designed to address the critical need for increased public engagement in governance processes, with a particular focus on enhancing the participation of women and youth. By utilizing puppetry-a unique and universally engaging medium, visions magnet theatre will conduct a series of community outreach sessions across ten strategically chosen sites in Malindi and Magarini in Kilifi County. The goal is to nurture a more informed, participatory, and proactive community in local governance
Our project, the Sauti Zetu initiative, started when we observed that many communities lacked access to reproductive services and were unaware of key governance issues affecting their daily lives. This lack of knowledge was leading to unplanned pregnancies and a general disengagement with civic responsibilities. To address these challenges, we organized outreaches programs in various communities where we reached over 340 people. Our primary focus was to provide reproductive health services, offer counseling, and distribute educational materials to help individuals make informed choices about their reproductive health. Additionally, we educated the community on governance issues, such as their rights and responsibilities, to encourage greater civic participation.
By combining family planning services with governance sensitization, we aim to empower individuals to take control of their health and actively engage in decision-making processes that affect their lives. This dual approach is helping to create more informed and self-sufficient communities, improving both individual well-being and civic participation. We intend to increase outreaches in various areas within Kilifi county Visions magnet theatre (VMT) is more than just an organization; it is a foundation of hope for youth and women in Malindi and Magarini, Kilifi County. Through its holistic approach, VMT addresses critical issues in governance, women empowerment, reproductive health and climate justice
